There are some things you do because you have to. And some things you do because you love someone enough to want to carry a little of their weight.

This project is about the second kind.

Our Story

My husband is one of the hardest working people I know.

He grew up in Punjab with his parents and younger sister. He started working when he was around 14, and from a young age he felt a responsibility to help provide for his family.

While completing his MBA, he worked full-time teaching English.

When his mother was diagnosed with cancer, he continued working while taking her to treatments and supporting his family. His father later suffered a heart attack from the stress of everything they were going through. That's when he decided to retire his father.

Eventually, he moved to Canada as a temporary foreign worker because he believed he could create a better future for his family.

Then he met me.

I was a single mom of two, rebuilding my life and trying to grow a brand new photography business. Eventually, my grandmother moved in with me and needed a full-time caregiver, so photography took a backseat while I cared for her and raised my children.

My husband became the provider in our home.

He works in construction. His work is physically demanding, and he works incredibly hard. But despite everything he has carried, he is still one of the kindest most generous people I've ever known.

He doesn't complain. He just smiles and says : " This is my purpose."

Then he told me to chase mine

A few months ago, when I was considering getting just any job so I could contribute more financially, he looked at me and said:

"I don't want you to do that. I want you to pursue your dream, and I will work hard to take care of us."

So I did.

I completely changed the direction of my photography business, and over the last few months I've started booking weddings, elopements, couples, families and boudoir again. For the first time in a long time, I feel like I'm building something that is mine.

Something beyond being a mom and a caregiver.

I feel like I have purpose again and I want to use that purpose to give something back.

I'm not asking you to donate.

I'm asking you to hire me.

Our family has a significant financial goal we're working toward before the end of the year. Instead of asking people to donate toward it, I've decided that I want to work for it. So I've created The Give Back Project.
